Vice President of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osinbajo has visited Forcados platform in Burrutu Local Government Area in Delta State to assess ongoing repair work on the disrupted pipline. He was acompanied by the Delta Stae governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
This is coming on the heels of
similar visits made by relevant committees of the National Assembly and a
federal government delegation. Earlier this week, President Buhari vowed to
deal with vandals the way Boko Haram extremists are currently being dealt with
in the northeast of the country.
At the moment, Nigeria is faced with
chronic petrol shortage due to the inability of the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC) to meet domestic demand. This has been brought by a
combination of limited capacity, a shortage of foreign exchange to purchase
imports and pipeline vandalism.
In Delta State, a good number of the oil
facilities are either in a state of disrepair or are winding up acts of sabotage.
The Forcados terminal is believed to have been damaged by Niger Delta militants
who blew it up in their bid to protest the arrest warrant issued against one of
their leaders Government Tompolo

It will be recalled that the vandalism of Forcados terminal has
negatively affected Nigeria’s export and President Muhammadu Buhari
administration is stepping up work at the terminal and at the Nation's three refineries.
